How decluttering your home can make you happy
Why decluttering your home can literally declutter your mind & make you happier?
A study done by one of the major comparison sites in the UK shows that we store over five times more stuff in our homes than our European neighbours. We realize our homes are cluttered but we find it exceptionally hard to get rid of our possessions. We feel emotionally attached to our stuff.
There are many reasons why you should start decluttering right now.
- Clutter can physically obstruct us, it makes our homes harder to clean and unhealthy. It also affects our mood, our level of focus and ultimately our happiness. Looking at piles of stuff all day long can make you tired and it leads to higher levels of anxiety. Not to mention the fact that a cluttered home has a higher risk of fire. In Wales 25% to 30% of house fires are related to hoarding.
- Decluttering gives you more space. Space to move, to dance, to think, to work and do more with you time. Decluttering makes cleaning much easier, which saves you time and ultimately makes you healthier and happier. Saving time gives you freedom to do other things like to spend more time with your loved ones. Relocating to another home or downsizing is much easier when you hold less stuff. Selling a cluttered home is much harder. Lean home is much less hassle to redecorate or rearrange. The benefits go on.
- One solution is using a self-storage facility to keep hold of your belongings and at the same time keep your home decluttered. Whether it is kid’s old toys, books you no longer use, old photographs, DVDs/CDs, souvenirs, old furniture, old clothes, shoes or garden tools – it is important before you consider self-storage, to recognise what is truly meaningful to you, and what is just stuff. Create some room in your life, freeing yourself of all that extra stuff that you do not need.
